The city of Hirado is located in Western Japan, about two hours by car from Fukuoka Prefecture, also known as the "Gateway to Asia". Surrounded by water and blessed with endless natural beauty, Hirado is likewise one of Japan's leading port cities.

As far back as the Age of Discovery it was one of Japan's most well-known trading ports. The city once flourished as a center of trade with European and other Asian nations, giving the city its unique blend of Japanese and foreign culture which has been preserved to the present day. Boasting not one but two World Heritage Sites, Hirado is one of Japan's popular tourist destinations.
